For youth aged 11-21 with mental health and/or substance use disorders

The Community Action Team (CAT) provides 24/7 intensive community-based mental health and/or substance use disorder treatment for youth aged 11-21 and their families who have been unsuccessful with less intensive services and who have one or more of the following:

  • Risk for out-of-home placement
  • Two or more psychiatric hospitalizations
  • Involvement with the Department of Juvenile Justice or law enforcement
  • Poor academic performance and/or suspensions

CAT is available in Leon, Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Madison, Liberty, Taylor and Wakulla Counties.

A Team Approach

Apalachee Center’s CAT includes case managers, therapists, nurse practitioners and peer specialists who work together to coordinate comprehensive treatment plans tailored to meet the needs of our clients and their families so our clients can remain in their homes and communities.

CAT is available 24/7 to respond to crisis calls and respond in-person when necessary to prevent crisis situations or law enforcement involvement. The team provides psychiatric evaluations and medication management, family and individual therapy, case management, nursing and peer support services.

Rest & Recharge

As family commitment and participation are vital and expected for a successful outcome, one added benefit of the CAT program is the unique ability to provide respite care to tired caregivers. Respite care is time-limited: not lasting more than four hours, but provides caregivers time to breathe and recharge.

  • Strengthen the family and support systems for youth and young adults to assist them to live successfully in the community
  • Improve school-related outcomes such as attendance, grades and graduation rates
  • Decrease out-of-home placements
  • Improve family and youth functioning
  • Decrease substance use and abuse
  • Decrease psychiatric hospitalizations
  • Increase health and wellness
