Apalachee Center Recognizes Law Enforcement During National Police Week 2015
Tallahassee, FL – On May 15, 2015, Apalachee Center will recognize law enforcement professionals during National Police Week (Sunday, May 10 – Saturday, May 16, 2015) with a Graduation Luncheon for the law enforcement officers taking part in the Crisis Intervention Training hosted at Apalachee Center this week.
Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) in Tallahassee is sponsored through the collaboration of the Tallahassee Police Department, the Office of Court Administration – 2nd Judicial Circuit, Apalachee Center, NAMI Tallahassee (National Alliance on Mental Illness), Magellan Health Care, and the many volunteers throughout the community who help make this training possible. Apalachee Center hosts the CIT Trainings at their main campus in Leon County, and over the past 10 years, nearly 500 officers and police dispatchers throughout Leon and the surrounding counties have been trained and certified through the 40-hour course designed to enhance officers’ training in and understanding of psychiatric and mental health emergency situations.
“Apalachee Center has enjoyed a long and positive relationship with law enforcement in this community. This week’s Crisis Intervention Training happens to take place during National Police week, and is the perfect opportunity for Apalachee Center to say Thank You to local law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line everyday for the safety and protection of others,” said Dr. Jay Reeve, Apalachee Center’s Chief Executive Officer.
